What is the difference between working with a Contractor and a Project Manager?

When you work with a Contractor, you sign an agreement, in the form of a contract, to produce a predetermined product for a predetermined price. Included in this predetermined price is the contractor’s fee and built-in contingencies to cover anything unexpected. The mandate of the contractor is to work on the client’s behalf to complete the project according to the contract.

When you work with a Project Manager you are hiring an individual for a fee who will work with an agreed-upon budget and oversee the completion of a project on a time and material basis. The mandate of the Project Manager is to work on the client’s behalf to assure that the project is completed in as timely and cost efficient manner as possible.
